24 or so hours in the life...
6:15 pm: arrive at the Middle School. Wait for Tyler and Maris to get there. See Tyler for the first time in a week. He hugs me. In front of everyone. I missed him. He gets changed, I say good bye and head to Van Alstyne for Parker's 8:00 game.

7:15 pm: Arrive at ballpark in Van Alstyne. Get ears blown out by the sound system playing "Welcome to the Jungle." Is that loud or am I old?
8:00 pm: Game time. Announcer introduces team...Parker is batting 4th.
8:05 pm: Aliza finds some kids to play with on the play ground.
9:50 pm: Game over. We lost. Bad. Game time tomorrow: 2 pm. That works out great because Tyler plays at 10 am in Bonham. Van Alstyne is 25 minutes up 75. Bonham is 50 minutes up 121. If T's team loses, they will play at 6 pm. If they win, they will play at 4 pm. Start thinking how I am going to swing this. Do I hope Tyler loses so that I can make it back to watch his 6 pm? Oh, I didn't think this all the way through. If Parker loses, they are out. If he wins at 2 pm, he plays at 6pm.
10:35 pm: e-mail Cathi and ask for her help. Can Tyler hang out with them in Bonham until I can make it back there tomorrow afternoon? Thanks! See you in the morning!
Maris map-quests a route that uses a farm road (all the roads here are farm roads) to cut across from Bonham to VanAlstyne and will only take me about 30-35 minutes to get there after T's game so I don't have to go all the way back down 121 to 75 and then back up to VanAlstyne, which would take about 50-55 minutes.
Saturday, 6:45 am: alarm rings. Really? 8:21 am: leave house for Bonham...
9:10 am: follow map quest directions to Bonham. Hiram told Maris that once we got to the High School, the ball fields were easy to find. Really? I'm lost. Call Cathi. They don't know either. Brian calls Hiram. Follow Brian and Cathi to the ball field.
10:00 am: game starts. Tyler bats 3rd. Plays 1st and catch. Kids play hard. Moms and Dads are hot. We lose 2-3, but they played really hard. Next game, 6 pm.
Look at Tyler's cute hair poking out of his helmet.
12:26 pm: leave Bonham, follow map quest directions to VanAlstyne. Everything is going well, go down FM 121 about 6 of the 10 last miles. 4 miles left. Road closed, bridge out. Take detour. 10 miles Northeast to Tom Bean, then turn west and go 10 miles to Howe, then head back south on Highway 5 10 more miles to Van Alstyne. Shortcut???? (see VanAlstyne map for reference.)
1:35 pm: finally arrive at ball field.
Parker walked twice, here he is watching it...
3:51 pm: game over. Beat Celina really bad. 14-0. It is 97 degrees, plus humidity. Don't even want to think about the heat index. Games are running late, coach says to be back at 5:45.
SO FREAKIN' HOT!
3:55 pm: decide to go home so Parker and Aliza can eat and Parker can relax and cool down.
5:09 pm: Cathi calls and says there is lightening in Bonham so there is a game delay. She'll keep me posted. Maris gets off work and heads to Bonham
5:45 pm: arrive back at VanAlstyne. Lightening starts there. Game delay.
6:35 pm: still under the awning while a bunch of dumb men try to decide if we should let the boys play yet. There is still lightening. One of the parents from the Anna team complains. The umpire tells him: "We are watching the radar, we have it under control." Boys start to try to start a fire under the awning using a hot dog wrapper, grass and a rock, and some sticks.
7:00 pm: Kids take the field, 5 minute warm-up. More lightening. Off the field for mandatory 15 minute delay. Maris calls and says that they have started games back up in Bonham. Best case scenario, Tyler starts to play after 8 pm. Aliza is getting bored.
7:50 pm: still no game. The crowd is getting restless. The 2 teams that were supposed to play at 8 have arrived. More lightening. Starting to rain.
8:00 pm: game officially delayed. All games will be pushed back one day. Parker's team will have to play tomorrow without him. If they win, we play again on Monday at 4. Now it is really raining. Run to car. Go home.
9:05 pm: Maris calls. After Tyler's team finally took the field to warm up it started to rain. Game rescheduled for 2 pm tomorrow.
I'm ready for a long soak in the tub....
