Thank You!
I just want to give a big thank you to Luke and Misty (and baby Max) who are our Ward Mission Leaders. In our ward, the WM's visit the homes of the children preparing to be baptized and share the first four missionary lessons with the child and their family. They ask the child to make commitments and prepare them for the covenants that they are about to make. They come twice and give 2 lessons at a time. I really appreciate the dedication and time it takes for them to fulfill this calling...our family has been blessed by their spirit!
**FYI...Aliza is being baptized on Saturday (March 1) at 9:00 am at the Legacy Building in Plano. We would love for anyone to come who would like to. We will also have a light brunch at our home immediately following and we'd love for y'all to be there!our last 24 hours
Ahhh, finally, peace, sweet peace.
Aliza came home from school yesterday with a stomachache. It seemed to come and go depending on what was going on around her, so, naturally (given her tendency to be dramatic) I pretty much just blew it off. I took her to Tyler's basketball game, where she whined. Maris got there, and she whined to him. (He listens better than I do to it.) The game got over and we walked out to the parking lot where Aliza proceeded to throw up. (I am so sorry I drug you out Liza!)
We got home, bathed her and got her all tucked in for the night. Maris and I went to bed. At about midnight, Parker came into our room announcing he had just thrown up. Luckily, he and T were sleeping in the media room and had taken in a bunch of blankets, so we just threw those into the washer. He seems more upset about the fact that he will miss his basketball game and the Blue and Gold Banquet the next morning more than anything. Parker goes back to bed.
I lay in bed thinking about the fact that Aliza's baptism is only one week away, become stressed about preparations, cannot fall back to sleep. Finally drift off...
3:15 am "MOMMMMMM!" It's Aliza. Throwing up.
Clean floor in bathroom.
Clean toilet.
Give her another bath...wash hair.
Tucked in, go to sleep.
Again, wide awake, now with the beginning of a migraine.
Drift off, finally.
Alarm goes off, 7 am.
Call friend on Parker's basketball team (don't have coach's number) to let them know he won't be there.
Climb back in bed.
Parker's back...sick again.
Clean his toilet.
Run him a warm bath.
Take some Excedrin and just get up for the day.
4 pm...home from Aliza's basketball game (I coach...I have to go.)
So tired...lay down on couch.
Sleep until Maris gets home at 7.
Can't go to Brianna and Dan's National Pancake Month Breakfast Dinner, :(
T is OK still...knock on wood. He helped me take care of my sickos so much today!

Tonight our friend Maureen called and said that Jake (her husband) had gone to Dodie's and picked up some crawfish and invited us over to our first Crawfish Boil.

Shout out to my Turkish Family
I failed to mention my dear baby brother Ricky and his dear sweet wife Becky and their adorable darling daughter PJ who are in Turkey. He called to remind me that he reads my blog too. I forget because he doesn't update his.
Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!
I have discussed the fact that I am a blog lurker before. So there is this blog that I read sometimes because I think she is funny. Someone left a comment on her last post that questions why she is blogging and says basically that there are just a bunch of Mormon housewives who are competing to have popular blogs (huh?) and that basically make up happy things and lie about how good things are to make their lives look better.
Bitter, huh?
So, in case anyone out there is questioning why I blog, I want to make it clear.
1. I want an easy way to keep in touch with my family and friends back in Utah. I can post pictures of my kids and don't have to mail prints to my mom or mil every couple of weeks. They can see what we are doing and see how the kids are growing and changing.
2. Blogs have become one way that I have fun with my new Texas girlfriends. I have made many dear, and what I hope will be life-long, friends on line. Ironically, when I pull up my site-meter, I get more hits from Texas than Utah. Maybe my Utah friends are losing interest in me!
3. I have some friends from various parts of my life that, if we are honest with ourselves, I would have lost track of long ago except for the occasional Christmas cards. These friends have blessed my life in imeasurable ways. We have tried e-mail off and on, but with our blogs, we have truly reconnected. At least I feel like we have.
4. My blog is a fun way to keep a journal. I blog about random thoughts sometimes. Sometimes I throw stuff in that only a few select will even understand. It is my little shout out to ya. One of my Utah friends called last night laughing hysterically at a post that brought back some funny moments we have shared. And no, I usually don't blog about stuff that sucks. I'm not trying to pretend that my life is perfect or that Maris and my kids don't bug me sometimes. I just choose not to air it publicly. I also am a glass-half-full person. I believe that focusing on positive things and having gratitude for what I have been blessed with is better for me than focusing on the fact that Aliza hasn't taken her clothes that I folded and put them away yet or that I can't stand that Maris, well, you probably don't need to know all that. I also believe that we are only as happy as we allow ourselves to be. Some of my happiest times were during Maris' month of unemployment. We chose to dwell on our blessings, not feel sorry for ourseves. That month was followed by 1 1/2 years of financial struggles. And I cannot believe how blessed we were in that time. That time led us here. "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want." Trials are how we grow. Focus on the blessings of your trials, not the heartache.
5. One more thing I love love love! is that I have met such fun people, which was never my intention when I started blogging. I have become friends with Jennifer, who is Adri's cousin who lives in California, who also happens to be friends with my friend Lisa here in Texas. I have found new people to admire and to learn from and to uplift me and make my life better. I have corresponded with some friends of Heidi's who live in Texas, and one who lives in Wahington DC. (BTW Heidi, I can see why you loved Nawlin's so much, you met some awesome people there!)
Sorry for the ramble....I love you all. You are the reason I blog.

Blah, blah, blah....
...blogging rut. As always, I have a lot to say, but not necessarily in the mood to say it. :)
Last Thursday, we had Valentine's parties at the school. When I have been room mom in the past, I used to have mom's calling and begging to help with parties. In fact we had to kinda stagger them and say if you helped with Christmas (oh, I mean "Holiday," we must be politically correct) then someone else gets to help with Valentine's. In Parker's class, we had the room mom and me. There were only 3 moms in Liza's and 3 in Ty's. And it is the same 3 moms from the Holiday party. There are a couple of us who have multiple kids and party jump to try to help all. It is just different.
One thing I like is that each grade level has a lead room mom, and the room moms from that grade all get together and plan the party. They use the money budgeted to them from the donations at the beginning of the year (recommended $10 per child and then divided between 3 parties) and each class in the grade level has the same party, but in their own classrooms. It very effectively eliminates the competition between overzealous room moms who have a tendancy to overdo things. For instance, in Parker's class, the 4th grade room moms ordered a craft from Oriental Trading and all the 4th grade did the same craft. They all had a chocolate fountain and dipped fruit, pretzels and marshmallows. They all had the same punch, the same games and cookies. Socialism at it's best.
Anyway, here are some snapshots of the day:

The chocolate in the chocolate fountain went wax-y. I'm glad I was not in charge of it! The kids said it tasted GREAT anyway! They made cute fleece heart shaped pillows.
Liza's class made a cute tissue flower for "someone special" (Liza gave hers to Daddy).
The 6th grade decided not to pass out Valentine's to each other this year! They are just too mature for that! :) T and his friend Nicholas are the tallest kids in their class.
See, too much crap. Overwhelming. It is a good thing I have a craft room to hide it all in. 
And for my final thought of the day, here is what I have been craving, and therefore eating, a lot of:

I went on a scrapbooking weekend last weekend. I am overwhelmed at the amount of pictures I have taken, how far behind I have gotten, and how much I really don't remember about my babies and small children.
When I got home on Sunday night, my perfect children had cleaned their closets and Maris had dinner in the oven. I love my family.
See, too much crap. Overwhelming. It is a good thing I have a craft room to hide it all in.While I was in Weatherford, I missed a tornado watch at home. But the most exciting thing I missed and I wish I had been here to see, was the drive-by shooting. Oh, it wasn't a drive-by, it was the golf ball size hail pounding on our windows. Thoughtful Maris put some in the freezer so I could see them. He knows I have wanted to see big giant hail. We lost power, and apparently the noise was quite terrifying. It did a lot of damage to cars that were out in driveways. Fortunately, ours was in the garage, and Maris' work car just got three dings.

Sunday night the Primary had their "It's Great to be 8" program where they tell the kids all about what to expect with Activity Days/Scouts, the Faith in God program, and their Baptism.
Aliza is so excited for her big day!
This is Caramel. His first name was Butterscotch, but he is a webkins, and you register their name on line, and apparently the name Butterscotch is an inappropriate name because it told us that it was unacceptable. I can't figure out why. Anyway, Caramel accidently got dry erase marker on him and Aliza said I could throw him in the washer and he would get clean. I was leary, but I did it and it worked. And I got to be the hero.
Mmmmmmm, chocolate chip cookie dough, before it gets ruined in the oven.
Last night was Aliza's 2nd grade singing program at the PTO meeting at the school. Her teacher recommended her for a speaking part and she was chosen. So she and 2 others narrated the program! She did a great job.
At Knowlton, Tyler and Parker were both able to have Mrs. Holman for in her 2nd/3rd grade split class. We love her! She told Parker if he wrote the class a letter, they would write back. This week Parker got this awesome package full of letters from some of the kids who were in his class last year, as well as the kids who are in there now. And Mrs. Holman sent each of the kids some hearts and a Valentine. So sweet. I just love her!
Parker and the kids had fun reading the letters. He is excited to write back. They had a lot of questions and he is excited to answer them.
I tried to get Tyler in this picture, but he moved out of the way...I tell ya, that kid just thinks he is too cool for school!!
So yesterday, our cell phone bill came. Tyler's phone had a $158.00 charge for 15 megs of downloads. When we called AT&T, they said that it looked like his phone was randomly connecting itself to the internet in the middle of the night and trying to download. They said sometimes that happens. What? He has a little Sync phone that couldn't hold that much info if it tried, and it sounds like it is possessed! I tell ya, one day our electronics are going to take over the world!
And I am sorry if nothing in this post is spelled right, I can't type and spell at the same time and blogger has broken it's spellchecker.

10 years ago: hmmmm, 1998. What I remember about 1998 is that I had 2 children under 2. It was full of diapers and wipes. I quit my job at US West that year and became an official full-time mommy. Maris went on commission for the first time, scary! We had been married for 4 years, and we felt like we had really made it! On a sadder note, Maris' dad passed away. My mom had moved to Idaho, and the boys and I went there, A LOT!
5 things on my to-do list today: 1. I am taking dinner to my neighbor, so I need to make sure that is ready and taken care of. 2. I'm going to supervise Maris as he (finally) takes the lights off the house and applies pre-emergent to our lawn. 3. Iron 4. PTO meeting tonight (Aliza is singing and has a speaking part at it!) 5. Go to Hobby Lobby and get 50% off scrapbooking supplies to prepare for my scrapbooking weekend in Weatherford this weekend!
Snacks I enjoy: man, what snacks do I not enjoy? I like Blue Bell ice cream, Mindy Mints, Snickerdoodles, banana bread, white hot chocolate non-fat with a shot of sugar free raspberry syrup....
Things I would do if I were suddenly made a billionaire: Travel, share, I don't know, is that sad?? I really feel like at this time in my life, I have everything I have ever wanted. I'm easy to please! Mostly what I want can't be bought.
3 of my bad habits: 1. I spend too much time on the computer. 2. I am a little ornory with Maris. 3. I am obsessive.
Jobs I have had: 1. Lagoon games department (age 15). 2. Lagoon Photo department (age 16 and 17). 3. US West (telephone operator, 11 years!) 4. Substitute teacher 5. Farmington City (Youth City Council advisor and events coordinator). 6. Mom (the best job on the list.)

The pictures I didn't take.
Last night the activities committee at church held a Valentine's Dance. They decorated really cute and we had a fun time. They even had pictures like a high school dance...since Maris and I both dislike dances and haven't been dancing since the Valentine's Dance we met at 14 years ago, we had our pictures taken to commemorate the occasion. As you can see we took it all very seriously.

Today was a typical Saturday. Busy! I forgot to take my camera with me at all, and I missed some great shots. But I'll share them with you anyway:Here is a picture of Tyler and Parker at the McFarland's house, getting ready to take plastic sacks around for Scouting for Food. Aren't they handsome??
Here they are goofing off with the other scouts and eating their Krispy Kremes.
Oh! Here's a great one! It is Aliza and Emily at the Kroger Pharmacy trying on reading glasses! They are so funny and soooo cute!
Here we are getting our chores done before we go to basketball games! The kids are working so hard and doing such a great job!
Parker's game! They lost to a comp team that plays in the rec league, but they only got beat by 7 baskets. (that sounds better than 14 points!) Here is Parker now! He is happy because he scored 3 of our team's 5 points!
And here we are at Aliza's game. They look so sharp in their royal blue jersey's! They lost too, but Liza is getting better and better at dribbling and passing to her own teammates!
We missed the first part of Ty's game (at Aliza's) but we made it in time to catch this awesome layup! T scored 12 of our team's 22 points and we won 22-5.
Here I am dropping Ty off at Christian's house for an evening of games with the boys from his church class. Can you see me crying because this is the 2nd Saturday night in a row that he has gone out with friends?
And here is me and Maris when we got home from taking Liza and Parker to Jalepeno Tree, listening to the message from the little girls who are calling T. Leave T alone, little girls! He is still mine.
After Ty's game, I was approached by a man wondering how long we have lived in Prosper and what other sports does he play? He had been watching (what a stud) T is on the basketball court and wondered if he plays baseball? He said he could imagine with his obvious athletic ability that he was a pretty good player. He coaches baseball in Prosper and is going to be watching him at the tryouts...(which are next Sunday, so....). Anyway, I can't believe how much T has broken out of his shell and how aggressive he has been this year in basketball. He is doing awesome, and we are excited to see what he brings to baseball. Time will tell!
Well, time to go pick my boy up from his night out with the boys. I hope you enjoyed my pictures that I didn't take!
