My mom went home yesterday, which pretty much sucked. (I know you hate that word, mom, but it accurately describes it.) It was so fun having her here, and I will blog about our fun later...even though we LOVE living here in Texas, it is hard to be so far away, where we can't get together with our families without it having to be a major trip for one or the other of us. I'm already looking forward to the next trip...

Yesterday, Tyler went to a Halloween Party. So while he was dressing up, the other two had to try out some looks, too. We dug through our dress up box and found some fun!

Tyler was a surprisingly good nerd...he stayed in character for most of the night:

Parker makes a beautiful little girl. If the whole football thing doesn't work out, he could try out to be a cheerleader:

Liza has had this costume for years...but for some reason, they always love anything that has to do with blood and gore:

My mom planned her trip so that she would be here to help while Maris and I went on to a work party that included a night at a 5 ***** Hotel in Dallas...I was going to wait and blog it after Carrie emailed me the pictures of Maris and I all dressed up, but I don't know when/if that is happening soon. Sooooo, here are my favorite parts:

Dinner.

It was so good.

Alaskan King Crab (with two butter sauces), Fingerling Potatoes

Heirloom Tomato Salad and Avocado, Thai Basil Sorbet

Crustless Beef Wellington "Rossini", Seared Foie Gras (which we found out, thanks to Carrie, means Duck Liver. I did not indulge.) Truffle Mashed Potato, Haricot Vert and Sauce Perigord

Chocolate Peanuts Caramel, Lemon and Yuzu, and Green Tea

And the centerpieces were beautiful:

Our room had a private balcony,

with a view of the pool,

Shampoo and Bath salts that did not come in plastic take home bottles,

Fresh flowers in the bathroom, in the sitting area and on all the trays they brought us.

Free coupons delivered right to our door.

And breakfast, prepared and served and delivered by someone other than me:

I also loved the cozy bathrobes, the big fluffy towels and the note left by our room attendant, Garfia, wishing us a "deep, joyful sleep" and "pleasant dreams."

It was a wonderful break from reality.

Misc....Blogworthy??

WOW!!!

(I never thought I'd get excited about $3.03 a gallon!)

Last week at Parker's game...our cheerleaders all turned and watched their cheerleaders who (gasp) knew the SAME CHEERS as us! (I think that our little girls thought they had some exclusivity on them.) They don't know that "Go Bananas....B A N A N A S!" has been around for DECADES!

Here is Tyler on Thursday after his game. Tyler's team lost 22-0 but he sure looks cute. Next week we are playing Celina, which is, as all the locals know, THE BIG RIVALRY. In the words of the Coach: "no one needs to tell you how important this game is." hmmmm. FYI the game is Thursday at 5 at Prosper High.

We had a couple of reunions this week. We had a "summer vacation reunion" with the McFarlands last Saturday. We met at Scotty P's to eat some really big cheeseburgers and some artery clogging french fries with "the works" which included cheese, onions, bacon and jalapenos. Then we headed over to Frisco Commons and let the kids run around on the fun playground and spin on the tire swing...see how good it made Aliza feel?

Tyler didn't want to be in the picture. I don't know why. Maybe it was too reminiscent of the car ride we took this summer...

A "Room Mom Reunion" was held on Thursday at La Madeleine's French Bakery...mmmm...french dip. These ladies were so fun to do activities with in Ms. Patton's class last year. Three of us have boys that are friends. In the front are the two Andrea's (V and O) and in the back are Tabitha and Kristin. We ate outside on the porch (it was a PERFECT day) and visited until we HAD to go because the kids were out of school. They are so fun. Tabitha leaves next week to go to Houston for some clinical trials for Liposarcoma. Keep her in your prayers for me, would ya? They need to have her tumors stop growing until she can have surgery again.

{school}

I love that the kids are doing so great in school this year and that they have all adjusted so well since moving here. I have gone to parent-teacher conferences this week for Parker and Aliza. Both are doing great. Unfortunately for blog purposes, things are much more visual for 3rd graders than for 5th graders, so the pictures here are all about Aliza. I'll find some ways to show Parker and Tyler's stuff later. :o)

I met with Parker's homeroom teacher, who also has him for Social Studies and Math. She said that he is doing really well in both. I was a little concerned because he keeps telling me he doesn't have any Math homework because he finishes it at school. I totally trust him, I was just worried he was hurrying through it and not doing as well as he could. She said he makes good use of spare time they give them to work on it and he is doing fine. He is especially good at "Mental Math" because he has a knack for doing it in his head. I've talked to his Science and Reading teachers too, he loves both of those classes and has really taken to his reading teacher. He loves her sarcasm and dry humor...:o) He is always smiling, loves being at school, has lots of friends and gets along well with everyone. She said, "Everyone likes Parker."

I also met with Aliza's teacher. I was pleased that she is doing great in reading, right on grade level, and is even starting to enjoy it a bit more. She has read a few chapter books the last few weeks and is seeing the entertainment in reading...whew.

She is also doing fabulous socially, and has a lot of friends. Again, she gets along with everyone and "loves to make people laugh (but not in a class clown way.)" She loves her teacher and the kids in her class.

Another one of her favorite spelling homework projects (next to the shaving cream) is writing the words on the sidewalk in chalk:

I was a "guest reader" in her class a couple of weeks ago, and had a lot of fun telling her class about my life as a reader. Ms. Garich sent this cute thank you home. I don't have many pictures of me with the kids because I am always the one behind the camera, so it is fun to have a cute picture of my little girl:

At the beginning of the year, she filled out a page that told all about her. I love to see these because it shows how they see themselves, always fun and enlightening for a mom!

I love that she wants to be a Pre-school Teacher. She loves kids and I think that she would be a great teacher. She plays school with her dollies, and does such fun things!
I'm so glad the kids are doing so well!
Thanks for all of your kind comments about my most recent headache. Terry adjusted my neck last night and I slept well, but woke up again with it! Dang! Fortunately, the Excedrine Migraine that I took for breakfast this morning seems to be working, and I may make it through the day! :o)
