In honor of Mother's Day this Sunday, I offer this gift:
We picked it up this week at the book fair at school. Tyler said I needed it, because, well, duh! Of course I am the mom who is best at everything! (not!)It is a funny little book that has such chapters as "The Wakeup Call" (how to get your school age children up in the morning with suggestions like: put your Barry Manilow CD in their CD player and turn it up full blast, tell them there is only one bowl of their favorite cereal left and the little bro is about to eat it, or start picking up the stuff off their floor and throwing it in the garbage), "Party Time," "Halloween Queen," "Me-Time for Moms: Perfect Pampering," "Are we there yet?" and "Mom's Gone Shopping."
It offers this sage advice for parents of teens: "The hardest thing for a mom to do is let go. But teenagers need to assert some independence and occasionally (heaven forbid!) make their own mistakes. It's all part of the learning process." Also remember to "allow age appropriate independence and assertiveness" and"develop a relationship of trust that allows your teen to talk to you when upset."
It gives us comebacks for excuses, things we wish our moms had taught us, how nice it is to grocery shop alone and how important it is to pamper ourselves.
