**Rick, I love you, but we just think differently. And that's ok.
For an interesting point of view on the upcoming elections, check this article out. Ann Coulter, author of "If Democrats had any Brains they'd be Republicans" and who is conservative beyond, makes this comment at the end:
"If Hillary is elected president, we'll have a four-year disaster, with Republicans ferociously opposing her, followed by Republicans zooming back into power, as we did in 1980 and 1994, and 2000. (I also predict more Oval Office incidents with female interns.)
If McCain is elected president, we'll have a four-year disaster, with the Republicans in Congress co-opted by "our" president, followed by 30 years of Democratic rule."
Something to think about.

When he's helping he's happy... 
Tyler went on a campout last weekend and learned a valuable lesson...whether he wants to admit it or not, mom knows a thing or two. I told him that it was going to be colder on this trip than the last one and he should take some warmer clothes. He said he was fine and didn't sleep very well...I felt really bad! It is fun to watch him grow and learn, and hard, too!
Yesterday was stormy and we got some small hail that turned into rain, and I had my first ever "tornado watch" but it wasn't for our county.
Super or Fat? You decide.
Today is either Fat Tuesday (eat your pancakes!)....

We had some spectacular thunder and lightening last night. I actually love storms here...you can see the lightening everywhere and it really is quite fabulous.
Sweetie feels differently. She hyper-ventilates and shakes and whines.

Superbowl Blow-out
By Sunday afternoon, I had come to terms with the Patriots winning the big game. And I was going to be OK with that for a couple reasons, one of which is that Tom Brady is hot. A second good reason was that if they could pull it off, that would definitely be awesome to go for a whole season un-de-feated. I mean really, what an accomplishment. Plus, someone needs to put the 1972 Dolphins back in their place. Do you find it odd that I even know this much about it? Come on, look who I am married to! At any rate, I was prepared to accept Eli's defeat. But man, did they turn it on or what? Did Tom ever make it out of the dressing room? And how 'bout that Giant's defense! And Eli made very good use of his little arm! They did what had to be done when no one thought they could do it!
But in reality, the Superbowl is really about the food, the friends and the commercials...and we loved all of it!
The kids had a blast playing with Bridger.
They even watched some of the game!

Forks in the road...
My "Plan" for today was to go to Aliza and Parker's basketball games, attend the Preparedness Fair at the church, watch President Hinckley's funeral in between games (on the DVR), and then go for a walk/run for the "Run in Memory of President Hinckley" that the MarathonMommies are sponsoring. When I got to the Fair, one of the Young Women in our stake had organized a Blood Drive for a Laurel project. She was also doing it for her father, who is going in for stem cell replacement therapy this week. He has cancer. Her goal was to help replace some of the blood her dad is going to need. So I gave a pint of my delicious O+. What I didn't count on was that as my body is trying to replace that blood, I am wiped out. I don't think my run is going to happen.
I guess that is what life is all about. President Hinckley taught us many lessons, but he taught us to do our best at all times. I believe that our best includes serving those around us, even if that means that it will change our plans. I would like to think that although it was only a little pint of blood, it did a lot to give this family comfort. My prayers will be with them this week as their family faces this hideous disease. Which, incidently also affected our prophet.
Things don't always happen the way we planned them to. But we must have faith that we have a loving Father in heaven, who wants what is best for His children. "Things will all work out, I say that to myself everyday..." President Hinckley loved each of us also. That was evident by the testimonies bourn at his funeral today. He has affected each of our lives, and the best tribute I can give to our prophet today is to remember his teachings and "try a little harder to be a little better!"
Eli or Tom???
Much to Maris' dismay, I choose my teams for different reasons than he does. He likes the Cowboys because when he was 8 or something and his brother made a bet with him and he bet on the Cowboys and they won and he has liked them ever since.
I choose them based on their colors, their uniforms and whether or not the quarterback is cute.
So the Giants and the Patriots both have decent colors, nice uniforms and gorgeous quarterbacks.
So here is how I made my decision this year.
Eli and Payton are brothers. Payton has a Superbowl ring. Eli doesn't. Tom has like 3 Superbowl rings. The Patriots have been to the Superbowl before and will probably go again. The Giants are there by some fluke because Tony Romo had a hot girlfriend and couldn't concentrate. Otherwise it would be Cowboys and Patriots. And finally, as a mother of 2 boys, it would break my heart if one of my sons had a Superbowl ring and the other one didn't.
Eli needs a ring.
And this may be his only chance.
So I am going to root for the underdog.

OK, sorry Janette, my friend who posted a similar map on her site, I had to steal this so that all my peeps back home could see how Texans accurately see the world.
There is Texas and it's colonies. If it's not in Texas, does it really count? I am going to get so much flack from Rick who wants us to get our kids out of here and have them deprogrammed ASAP.
I think I'll just take a vacation to the Gulf of Texas.
Maris and I have been taking the Family History Sunday School class this year. I have always felt a draw to my ancestors, but doing Family History always seemed so daunting and difficult. I can remember as a young teen going to the Family History Library with the Young Women and walking in and being OVERWHELMED by the microfisch and old documents and everything. I never thought that it would be something that I would have the patience for. But the internet is making everything so much easier. Soon, the church will have a new website (www.new.familysearch.org, I think) that will be available in selected areas for a while and then open up for everyone. But it is important to submit your info so that you are then connected to those in your tree. Eveyone shoud have a Family Sheet done and try to put together at least 4 generations in a pedigree.
Another thing that you can do from your home computer is indexing. The church has copies of census records and death records and birth records that are handwritten and need to be computerized. You can sign up to do indexing by going on to http://www.familysearchindexing.org/ and getting an account and then you download a batch (20 records) and transcribe it. Each batch only takes 15-30 minutes to do and it is amazing to see these old records. I have been working on a South Dakota Census and it has been so interesting to see the information. They list occupations and states/countries they were born in and you can just imagine these immigrants coming to America for the opportunities that were here. Even if that opportunity was owning some land to farm on. It makes me wonder what it must have been like to leave everything for an unknown place and a chance to grow.
For a project in Tyler's reading class, they have to bring in a pedigree chart with at least 4 generations on it. We were looking at ours, and I was showing them my great-great grandma Ann Maria Briscoe Hulme, and how she left England to join the saints in Idaho. She came alone at age 16 with her little sister. We were looking at the dates and talking about how her family had joined the church because of some missionaries. Parker asked a question about it and then said, "So, if they didn't join the church, we might have never been members of the church?" It made me think of how truly connected we are to our ancestors and how their decisions affected us and how our decisions are going to affect our posterity.
The work on geneology is speeding up...technology has made it easier and easier to be a part of it.
I feel fortunate to come from a long line of strong women...what great examples! Here is a picture journey through my 5 generations:

I went to the fitness center at the Community Center yesterday to do the treadmill. I went with high hopes. They were dashed. I lasted just over 20 minutes and I only ran about 1/2 of a mile, the rest was walked quickly. I wanted to die. I have a ways to go before I can start training for the marathon.Enough about me, let's talk about...
There is absolutely nothing exciting happening in my life right now, but I have noticed a few crazy things going on in the world...
How about the Spy Satellite that never worked right and now is plummeting towards earth? But don't worry, says the government, if it doesn't burn up upon re-entry into the atmosphere, it probably won't hit anything.
And Dr. Phil visited with Matt (Lauer) this morning. He didn't break any patient-doctor privileges when he talked to the media about Britney Spears' condition, because he surrendered his Texas doctor's license years ago. He's just a man with a TV show now.
And how about Miss America. They made a really big deal about how it was a "new" pageant, not just a beauty contest...and they had us all log in and vote for an extra girl to make it into the final 15 (16, whatever). So Miss Utah won that little vote thing on TLC, she came out and modeled her swimsuit (the only one not in a bikini) and then the judges cut her. Why did they let America put one in and then just immediately cut her? They could have at least let us seen her gown and talent...and by the way, the girl who won is a typical beauty queen. Miss Utah has a brain on her shoulders and is actually in the Army and has actually served over seas, (and has a cute haircut, not just a modern Farrah 'do.) And I will probably never watch Miss America again. So there.
In our world, Aliza is taking Cognat tests this week, I think we have our jersey issue taken care of, (cross your fingers), Tyler has a Scout campout this weekend (hope for decent weather!), and Parker earned his Basketball pin for Weblos...
Note to Self
One of the harder things in life for me to remember is that enjoying a whole bunch of these at night,
will give me a wicked migraine in the morning.Oh, the cruelty...how could something so soft and exquisitely chewy and delicious cause such pain?
Pet Peeves at the movies
1. "I am Legend" is not "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" therefore, does not require audience participation.
2. Come in, sit down and stay for a while. It is unnecessary to get up 15 times to go to the bathroom with your girlfriends. If it does become necessary to leave, please do so quietly.3. Speaking of sitting, if the theater is only 1/4 full, don't sit in the two seats next to me. This is huge. If I wanted to sit elbow to elbow, I would go to a new release.
4. If you have the tendency to scream every time something jumps on screen, go see something different in the theater and save this one for DVD.
5. When they ask us to silence our phones, this means you, too.
6. Oh, one more thing, if you know that you may want to get up 15 times, sit in the back on the edge.
